Alfa Romeo has unveiled its new Giulia sedan in Milan, Italy, and boy oh boy does it look like fun, both in photos and on paper.

Wearing the Quadrifoglio (four-leaf clover) badge Alfa reserves for its sportiest models, the Giulia revealed today is powered by a Ferrari-derived twin-turbocharged V6 shared with the Maserati Ghibli and Quattroporte. With a claimed 510 hp, it’s more powerful than the BMW M3, and matches the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S and the Jaguar/Land Rover supercharged 5.0L V8 for power output. Alfa says the car will blast to 100 km/h from rest in 3.9 seconds, but promises reasonable fuel economy by way of cylinder deactivation.

Alfa also boasts perfect 50/50 weight distribution, aided in part by the engine’s all-aluminum construction; on the aero front, an active splitter at the base of the front fascia boosts downforce at speed.

With the rise of all-wheel drive as a performance device, we’re surprised to learn the Giulia, at least in Quadrifoglio form, is strictly rear-wheel drive, and, according to Automotive News, comes with naught but a manual transmission. Other engines and transmissions–and all-wheel drive–will become available as Alfa builds out the full Giulia range, but for now, this car is a taste of what’s to come for the brand’s renewed presence in North America.
