Auto Tech: Vehicle control on snowy roads
If a vehicle is out of control and you try to steer it back onto the road quickly when deep snow is pulling the vehicle into the ditch, you stand a good chance of rolling. Winter Tire Review: Michelin X-Ice
Safety technologies like electronic stability control, traction control and anti-lock brakes aren’t much use on icy roads without winter tires, reports Senior Editor, Paul Williams. Winter tires like the Michelin X-Ice use a softer rubber compound to increase grip, but the X-Ice also uses a hard compound that’s embedded inside the treadblocks to improve handling, he says.
