Buyer’s Guide: 2016 Honda Accord sedan

For 2016, Honda updates the Accord sedan it introduced to great fanfare in 2013, with a host of newly-available safety features, and a styling refresh.

As before, engine choices in coupe and sedan modls remain a 2.4L four-cylinder (185 hp/181 lb-ft of torque) and a 3.5L V6 that makes 278 hp and 252 lb-ft. Transmission-wise, four-cylinder cars can be had with either a six-speed manual or continuously variable (CVT) automatic, while V6 models are fitted exclusively with a six-speed automatic.

A hybrid sedan uses a 2.0L four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor that put a combined 196 hp through a continuously variable transmission.

Sedan trim levels are LX, Sport, EX-L, EX-L V6, Touring, and Touring V6; the Hybrid comes in base and Touring versions, and the coupe comes in EX, Touring, and Touring V6 configurations.

Standard kit includes hill start assist, LED daytime running lights, tire pressure monitoring, 17-inch alloy wheels, electric power steering, body-coloured door handles, heated and power-adjustable body-coloured side mirrors, LED taillights, automatic halogen headlights, speed-sensing variable intermittent wipers, active noise cancellation, dual-zone automatic climate control, lighted driver and front passenger visor-mounted vanity mirrors, outside temperature gauge, Bluetooth, map lights, multi-angle backup camera, one-touch turn signals, power door locks, power windows with driver’s auto up/down, keyless entry, rear-seat centre armrest with cupholder, steering wheel-mounted buttons for audio, cruise control and telephone, tilt-and-telescopic steering column, 10-way power driver’s seat, four-way manual front passenger seat, 60/40 split folding rear seat, heated front seats, multi-information display, six-speaker stereo with Android Auto/Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth streaming audio, two USB connectors, and text message function.

Sport trim adds 19-inch alloy wheels, LaneWatch blind spot display, mirror-mounted turn signal repeaters, chrome door handles and exhaust finishers, LED fog lights, power moonroof, decklid spoiler, side sill garnish, aluminum pedals, intelligent keyless entry, remote start (with CVT), leather-and-fabric seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and an upgraded stereo with subwoofer.

To LX and Sport trims, a Honda Sensing package adds a collision mitigation braking system, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and road departure mitigation.

EX-L and EX-L V6 trims reverts to 17-inch wheels, but gains LED brake lights, auto-dimming rearview mirror, compass, auto up/down front passenger window, rear console ventilation, driver’s seat memory, four-way power front passenger seat, heated rear seats, perforated leather seats, and satellite radio.

EX coupe models get 18-inch wheels, but are otherwise similarly equipped.

Touring and Touring V6 trims brings back 19-inch wheels and adds automatic high beams, LED headlights and front turn signals, rain-sensing wipers, display audio with navigation, garage door opener, front and rear parking sensors, wireless smartphone charging, and HD radio.

Touring and Touring V6 coupe trims are similarly equipped.
