Former French gymnast and multiple WRC champion takes to Pikes Peak to reclaim the mountain for Peugeot.

Sébastien Loeb, the master of tarmac, has gone to Pikes Peak and conquered it. The Frenchman laid down a record time of 8:13:878 in a full carbon fiber Peugeot 208 T16. That time bests Rhys Millen’s previous overall record by over a minute and a half.

The 875 hp 208 T16 was custom built especially for the hill climb to run in the Unlimited class. Loeb, who’s “retired”, seems to want to add “ruining everyone’s day” to his list of post-retirement hobbies.

The record comes 25 years after Ari Vatanen’s “Climb Dance” while driving a Peugeot 405 Turbo 16 GR on a very different Pikes Peak which was mostly gravel. The modern day course is completely paved.
