In 2014, Chevrolet released the redesigned all-new Silverado. The front end of the new truck received some criticism and a lackluster response overall. One of the biggest gripes was that the front end looked dated. Most people get a huge kick out of purchasing a modern-looking updated vehicle and pride themselves on being at the forefront of technology – and buying a brand new truck that doesn’t look like a brand new truck isn’t on the top of many peoples’ lists of favourite things to do.

The redesigned 2014 Silverado just didn’t have the same modern styling that its competitors from Ford and Dodge had. It didn’t look bad, it just didn’t look good.

For 2016, Chevy designers knew they had to turn up their game and judging by this latest photo, the front ends’s new look may just go over well with the Silverado’s rabid following.

The new hood is much more muscular and badass-looking than the previous hood, while the grille is split into two parts with a body-coloured piece across the middle of it (I’d prefer a black piece myself). The new headlights are single units with dual LED running light strips. The front bumper no longer looks awkward and blends well with the new grille and lights. Vertical foglights make for a sharp and clean look.

Gone is the chrome overload and the combination of all the updated pieces minus all the chrome, results in a modern and good-looking front end.

We’ll have to reserve judgement on the entire car as Chevy only released the one front end photo for now. We expect more information and photos before the Silverado’s official debut this coming autumn.

As far as overall changes go, not much has bee confirmed but Chevrolet has said, “The redesigned 2016 Silverado will build on Chevy Trucks’ legacy of dependability. It will feature a more muscular appearance and offer new customer-focused technologies.”

Other changes for 2016 will include expanded use of 8-speed automatic transmissions, updated Chevy MyLink with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and as always, additional safety technologies.
