Completely redesigned for 2010, the Subaru Legacy undergoes mostly trim changes for 2011. All models receive foldable exterior mirrors. The 2.5i adds a Convenience Package of voice-activated Bluetooth connectivity, ten-way power driver’s seat, 16-inch aluminum alloy wheels and stainless steel exhaust tip; the Convenience Package can also be combined with Subaru’s PZEV (Partial Zero Emission Vehicle) technology when the CVT is chosen.
The 2.5i Sport Package adds fog lamps, while the 2.5GT adds sport pedals, simulated carbon-fibre trim, fog lamps and new silver upholstery stitching.
Three engines are available, all of them horizontal “boxer” configuration: a 170-horsepower 2.5-litre four-cylinder in the 2.5i, 265-horsepower turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder in the 2.5GT, and a 256-horsepower 3.6-litre six-cylinder in the 3.6R. The 2.5i is also available as a PZEV (Partial Zero Emission Vehicle), which reduces emissions by as much as 90 per cent compared with a conventional vehicle. The 2.5i uses a six-speed manual transmission or Lineartronic continuously variable transmission (CVT). The 2.5GT uses a six-speed manual transmission exclusively, while the 3.6R models come with a five-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode.
All come with Subaru’s symmetrical full-time all-wheel drive, with configuration dependent on the model. The 2.5i and 2.5GT models with manual transmission use a viscous coupling limited-slip centre differential to distribute power 50/50 front to rear. The 2.5i with CVT uses an electronically-controlled multi-plate transfer clutch system that runs 60/40 in dry conditions, and 50/50 on slippery surfaces. The 3.6R models use variable torque distribution, which uses an electro-mechanical centre differential that runs 45/55 on dry roads, and 50/50 on slippery ones.
Trim levels are the 2.5i, 2.5i Convenience Package, 2.5i Convenience Package PZEV, 2.5i Sport, 2.5i Limited, and 2.5i Limited with Multimedia; the 2.5 GT; and the 3.6R, 3.6R Limited, and 3.6R Limited with Multimedia.
Features on the Legacy 2.5i include 16-inch steel wheels, air conditioning, 60/40 split-folding rear seats with armrest, three-spoke steering wheel with audio controls, cruise control, CD/MP3 stereo with auxiliary input jack, overhead console lighting, information display, exterior temperature gauge, height-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, power locks with keyless entry, power windows with driver’s auto-down, and tilt and telescopic steering wheel.
The 2.5i Convenience adds 16-inch alloy wheels, ten-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, Bluetooth connectivity, heated power mirrors, and stainless steel exhaust tip.
The 2.5i Sport Package adds 17-inch alloy wheels, power sunroof, wiper de-icer, rear spoiler, auto-dimming mirror with compass, leather-wrapped steering wheel, fog lamps, USB/iPod media hub, Sirius satellite radio, and Bluetooth connectivity.
The 2.5i Limited package adds dual-zone automatic climate control, power passenger seat, leather upholstery, woodgrain trim, and six-CD/MP3 premium stereo with nine Harman Kardon speakers.
Features on the 2.5GT include 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, power sunroof, functional hood scoop, rear spoiler, twin mufflers with stainless steel exhaust tips, leather upholstery, titanium trim, alloy pedals, fog lamps, simulated carbon-fibre interior trim, power front seats, nine Harman Kardon speakers, Sirius satellite radio, USB/iPod media hub, and multimedia centre with CD/DVD player, voice-activated GPS navigation, backup camera, voice-activated Bluetooth and streaming Bluetooth audio.
Features on the 3.6R include 17-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, power sunroof, wiper de-icer, twin mufflers with stainless steel exhaust tips, auto-dimming rear-view mirror with compass, driver’s auto up/down window, power driver’s seat, heated seats, leather-wrapped wheel, USB/iPod media hub, Sirius satellite radio, and Bluetooth connectivity.
The 3.6R Limited Package adds dual-zone automatic climate control, power passenger seat, six-CD/MP3 premium stereo with nine Harman Kardon speakers, leather upholstery, and woodgrain trim.
The 2.5i Limited and 3.6R Limited can be further optioned with a Multimedia package of CD/DVD stereo, voice-activated GPS navigation, backup camera, voice-activated Bluetooth and streaming Bluetooth audio.
