– New MC Centennial Edition
Maserati’s big grand touring coupe and convertible carry over into model year 2015 without any major changes other than a new limited-edition model of the range-topping MC that celebrates the brand’s 100th anniversary. The MC Centennial get unique colours including Magma red and Inchiostro blue which were inspired by Maserati’s hometown of Modena. Seven unique interior colour themes are also included, plus fancy badges for the wheels – but no additional performance equipment.
Having been in production since 2007, the GranTurismo is aging gracefully; its Pininfarina-styled lines still turn heads, while its cabin has a rich-smelling, handcrafted feel. Buyers upgrading from modern mainstream GTs like the Benz CL or BMW 6 Series might find the GranTursimo lacking in convenience technologies – lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, proximity key with push-button start, and even a reverse camera are not available. Expect these features to come along once the next-gen car arrives.
What the GT offers in abundance is sensory engagement. A chassis with slight rearward weight distribution and steering with generous road feel make it a joy to pilot, while the naturally aspirated Ferrari-made 4.7-litre V8 sings a song that’s otherworldly. Sure, its five-second 0-100 km/h is outpaced by some hot hatches a third the price, but few cars stir the soul like the GranTurismo. Comfort is a strong suit too. The six-speed ZF gearbox shifts smoothly, and the ride is livable on all but the MC trim thanks to standard adaptive damping.
The GranTurismo is available in Coupe and Convertible body styles. The Coupe is available in Sport, MC, and MC Centennial Edition. The Convertible is offered in the same variants, but also has a softer-edged base model.
