Volkswagen’s New Midsize Coupe Is Not A Coupe, Sits Oddly Between Passat and Jetta

Revealed in Beijing, the Volkswagen NMC may turn out to be a front-drive sport sedan for the masses

While Volkswagen was showing cool wares in New York, they’ve also been doing the same at Auto China in Beijing. On top of revealing the insanely powerful Golf R400, Volkswagen also took the covers off something entirely new.

Sitting atop Volkswagen’s new MQB platform, the New Midsize Coupé is the group’s answer to the Mercedes-Benz CLA but hopefully in a more affordable package. The NMC is shorter than a compact Jetta but wider than a Passat.

Styling definitely tows the company line, looking much like a wider Jetta up front. Under the hood sits a 217 hp 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder mated to a 7-speed DSG good for a 0-100 km/h sprint in 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 244 km/h.
