Toyota Canada says it has given Canadian truck buyers exactly what they’ve been asking for in announcing the addition of a TRD Pro Series trim to its full-size Tundra pickup line for 2016.

Such a truck is already offered in the U.S., which, according to Toyota Canada vice-president Stephen Beatty, generated enough interest in Canada to make it worthwhile to bring the same configuration north of the border. He announced the Canadian edition of the truck at a RAV4 Hybrid launch event held in Ottawa on Friday, November 27.

Toyota says the addition of Toyota Racing Development (TRD) remote reservoir suspension, performance dual exhaust and tailpipes, skid plate and 18-inch black alloy wheels turn the Tundra into an “adrenaline-fueled off-roader” built for “epic weekends.”

The Pro Series model builds on the existing Tundra Off-Road trim, which gets Bilstein shocks (which we assume are swapped out for the remote-reservoir system), fuel tank protector plates, clearance and backup sensors, heated front seats, power driver’s seat; it’s powered by the 5.7L V8 that brings 381 hp and 401 lb-ft of torque to the Tundra’s upper trims, and (obviously, we suppose) is only available with four-wheel drive.

Also included are a seven-inch display audio system with navigation and satellite radio. The truck will be offered in a variety of paint colours, but we dig the beige finish in which Toyota presented the truck to us.

The TRD Pro Series is priced for people who really like off-roading (or want people to think they dig it): start at $54,475 in Double Cab configuration, and a Crewmax version carrying a $56,975 MSRP–both numbers a long way from the SR5 Double Cab 4×4 and Crewmax 4×4 models’ respective $41,035 and $42,495 pricetags.
