Subaru says it will re-enter the three-row crossover market with a brand-new model to be built at its Indiana factory starting in 2018.
The company nixed its last seven-seat SUV, the slow-selling Tribeca (nee the even more unfortunately-named B9 Tribeca, shown below), after the 2014 model year. Its replacement doesn’t have a name yet, but Subaru Canada says the new crossover’s badge will evoke “outdoor adventure;” In other words, it probably won’t be incongruously named after a borough in Manhattan. (Subaru ‘Central Park’ has a nice ring, doesn’t it?)
When it goes into production, the three-row model will be the fourth vehicle assembled at the Lafayette, Indiana plant, after the Legacy sedan and Outback crossover bolted together there now, and the next-generation Impreza that’ll be built there starting next year. Subaru says the addition of Impreza assembly will boost that factory’s annual production to nearly 400,000 vehicles.
