The Fiat and Chrysler group announced last week that their Windsor plant will welcome 600-plus new employees, a process the group already started in the summer, according to driving.ca. The reason for this hiring spree is the production of the next-generation Chrysler Town and Country minivan, destined to be unveiled at the next Detroit auto show.

Not only will the new minivan be produced in both a gasoline and a plug-in hybrid variant, it will also join the already-existing production of the Dodge Grand Caravan, hence requiring the additional workforce. The group has already spent the sum of 2 billion dollars on what they call their new minivan program, a funding that included the retooling of the Windsor plant.

The Ontario-based plant currently employs 4,500 workers, producing up to 1,400 vehicles a day. No word yet regarding the new-generation Town and Country, if you’re interested in that sort of thing and haven’t made the jump to crossovers yet. The 2016 Detroit auto show will be the place to be to pop the seal on the next-gen minivan.
