Toyota’s upscale Lexus brand used Monterey, California’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance as the stage for revealing refreshed versions of its mid-size GS sedan, and full-size LX 570 SUV.

Both vehicles get mechanical upgrades as well as updated styling: the GS gains a new 200t base model powered by a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine, and the big LX sees its six-speed automatic transmission replaced with an eight-speed.

The new four-cylinder (the same one used in the IS, RC and NX models) gives the GS a total of three trims, as the V6-powered GS 350 and gas-electric hybrid GS 450. While the 350’s V6 is the same as last year’s, it enjoys a nominal power bump, adding five hp and three lb-ft of torque for new totals of 311 and 280. New, optional, tech includes the Lexus Safety System+, comprising pre-collision braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, intelligent high beam control, and radar-based dynamic cruise control. Lexus has also made a few minor running changes to the infotainment system introduced in the 2015 model.

Along with a new front end featuring a bolder version of the brand’s spindle grille (because that’s what the world needed), the LX gets new taillights and rear bumper, and new wheel designs.

In the LX, Lexus adds its ‘drive mode select’ system, allowing the driver to alter powertrain and suspension response with a console-mounted dial. Also new is a standard panoramic view camera, providing views to the front, rear and sides of the vehicle–not that similar systems haven’t been available in much less expensive vehicles for a number of years now.

The LX also gets the Lexus Safety System+ suite along with a blind spot monitor with rear cross traffic alert.

Lexus has not yet mentioned pricing or on-sale dates for the revised GS and LX.
