Toyota has announced their plan to expand Canadian production of the RAV4 to the Cambridge North Assembly plant’s production line. With the assembly of the Lexus RX already established in Cambridge and the RAV4’s in Woodstock, the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada installations will turn into a real sport utility vehicle hub. The company has also announced that the RAV4 hybrid will join the party as well.

Toyota Motor North America CEO Jim Lentz commented: “The RAV4 and the RAV4 hybrid are great products for TMMC. RAV4 is a leader in the fastest growing segment of the North American auto industry. We forecast that the segment will continue to demonstrate strong growth with the RAV4 being a major player.”

The company is expected to make significant investments in the Cambridge North Assembly plant to meet the new production requirements. It will also introduce Toyota’s New Global Architecture (TNGA), an innovative, integrated approach to developing and building vehicles, involving new production equipment and new processes. The Cambridge plant is scheduled to roll out its first RAV4s in 2019. This is great news for the Canadian Manufacturing industry, which will take a bit of a hit when Corolla production moves to Mexico.
