Months ago, we told you what we knew about the forthcoming 2016 Ford Shelby GT350, which basically amounted to “it’s gonna be fast.”

Now we have a better idea just how fast, as Ford has finally announced power figures for the car’s 5.2-litre flat-plane-crankshaft V8, which becomes the strongest naturally-aspirated motor in the company’s history, with 526 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque.

It’s also the highest-revving V8 Ford has ever produced, with an 8,250 rpm redline, and horsepower and torque peaks of 7,500 and 4,750 rpm, respectively. This engine’s a screamer.

According to Ford, the GT350 will be the “most balanced and nimble” production Mustang ever, the subtext being that we should expect a chassis that can keep up with that free-revving engine.

The ‘Save the Manuals’ crowd will be pleased to learn that the GT350 will be offered with naught by a six-speed manual transmission.

Ford says the latest high-performance Mustang variant will go on sale this fall.
