New truck to feature only diesel V8 in light duty class

When the curtain drops at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit next January, Nissan will be making a very large debut in the form of their next generation Titan full-size pickup.

Also, when the truck goes on sale, it will be the only light duty pickup with an available V8 diesel engine, specifically a 5.0-litre V8 turbodiesel supplied by Cummins with approximately 300 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque. With these numbers, the next Titan could also offer the best towing capability in its class.

The next generation will probably see the introduction of V6 powerplants and other engine options as Nissan takes the segment a bit more seriously. The current Titan is only available with a 5.6-litre gasoline fed V8 engine.

It was previously reported Nissan’s next generation of pickups – both Titan and Frontier – could be shared with strategic partner Mercedes-Benz.
