General Motors proclaimed today that the next-generation of its supercharged, superfast CTS-V goes on sale this summer at a price of $91,685, plus an $1,800 freight charge.

On paper, at least, the V stands for value: its 640-hp(!) V8 is 63 horses richer than that in the Mercedes-AMG E 63 ($113,800), boasts 80 more than those in the BMW M5 ($101,500) and Audi RS 7 ($116,000), and leaves the $104,500 Jaguar XFR-S in 90 thoroughbreds worth of Cadillac dust.

All that power, according to GM, translates into a mid-size sedan that sprints from zero to 96 km/h (60 mph) in 3.7 seconds, and comes standard with magnetic ride control suspension, a carbon fibre hood, big-ass Brembo brakes and 19-inch wheels and tires.

The CTS-V will come to market following the launch of the smaller ATS-V set to arrive in dealerships in early summer.
