2016 Forester XT Fog Light Lens Replacement Options FIXED
« on: October 13, 2016, 03:24:39 pm »
My first booboo, the passenger side fog light lens is now broken.  Dealer wants $195 for a replacement lens/bulb.  Before I fork out that, any suggestions for something else, and better than the OEM.  The XT has the steering responsive lights if that makes a difference (this is not a system that physically turns any lights in the direction you are steering, rather it activates the inside fog light; ie turn right, the right fog turns on.  It does use a different bulb that the standard fogs however).

Here is what they look like, and how they are mounted; I measured the diameter at 3 1/4":

Good call, thanks.  Just checked and they are $115 at Rockauto.  If I am going to fork that amount out, want to look at other lights that would be better; or maybe they just need a better bulb......

My old Forester had both fog lights broken, probably from flying rocks.  Subaru wanted about $250 each.  Since I never use fog lights I just left them.  Those things really should come with caps.  They should also be easily, and cheaply, replaced.

Unbelievably, our 01 Forester has both original fog lamp lenses.  Must be the only one on the planet.

Got my replacement unit in from Rock Auto thanks to Fobroader's recommendation.  Was $134 including tax, shipping and exchange (and a bulb) as compare to the dealers $228 with tax.

Took me about 1 hr to install: 2 screws and 3 fasteners.  Good news is the replacement is plastic, not glass, so should be much more robust  ;D  When (not if) the other one goes I will do the same.

No noticeable improvement to the light output, may try some different bulbs and see if that will make a difference.
