" Also on hatch space which is pretty skimpy. The NX may be based on the Toyota RAV4’s structure but it sure doesn’t share that lesser sibling’s generous cargo capacity. "

Those two sentences were all I needed to eliminate this off my list of possible candidates.  The main reason for us choosing a cuv over a car would be for the utility of increased cargo space and not so much for the ground clearance, or ride height.  This just makes the RAV4 Hybrid even more appealing imo.

No big deal since there is the Rav 4 , just like RX350 and Highlander , HL is more squared off

How times change ... Not too long ago people called the Acura beak suicidal. Now, "we must give Lexus points for bravery" with what has to be the ugliest front-end of the 21st century ...

$56k...seems a bit expensive for what it is (a small SUV)...i suppose they're all like this though (fully optioned premium brands)...personally, not seeing the value here.

So this is just a fancy Rav4 with a rather ugly nose for $60k....
Lighten up Francis.....

Yeah, the lack of cargo space is a deal killer for me, but I'm starting to see lots of these around, so they must have some appeal.

And value-wise, I'd go with the RAV for sure too.

Space is different for everybody. Try putting luggage for 4 in a GTI. The NX is huge in comparison. ;D

As per Toyota and Lexus sites....

Seats up / down  (cf)

Rav4

38.4 / 73.3

NX
17.6 / 54.5

They don't even measure them the same as there is no way the Rav4 is 2x the size of the NX. Obviously Toyota measures all the way to the roof.

From the article...

Quote
The NX may be based on the Toyota RAV4’s structure but it sure doesn’t share that lesser sibling’s generous cargo capacity.

Would be nice if reviewers would also include real measurements. I'd be shocked if the difference was that great.

Manufacturers get upset when we fill their cargo areas with fluids :P
Seriously though, I really must remember to pack a measuring tape with me when I take out SUVs.
It's good info to know the actual size of the openings, gaps between the wheel wells etc.
This is good feedback that I'll try to remember. And no, I'm not being sarcastic.

Now, having said all that - the NX is absolutely smaller than the Rav4, I can tell you that first hand.

I remember being quite surprised at how much smaller the cargo area in the RX was than in the Highlander.  Sloping roof lines eat up space big time.

Not sarcastic? Now that takes all of the fun out of this.  :rofl2:

Found this over on a Lexus forum. The numbers are VERY close except for the height.

So it seems, unless you pack your stuff up to the roof line, there is little or no loss in cargo space between the NX and RAV4.

Nah, the tailgate is way more square on the Rav, so even to the seat tops is much more narrow tailgate-seat back. Sure the floor distance isn't hugely different, but in real life it does take less stuff.

Looks like the regurgitation of a nightmare from the front, the engine is none-too-powerful, the finish is great, the durability and reliability is likely fantastic, the excitement level low. Pabulum for the short-sighted wealthy, since for $56K any number of vehicles will no doubt perform much better in virtually every way except fuel economy.

I just don't get it. Cannot imagine driving around in a vehicle that looks like it's about to visit a Halloween party. Every. Single. Day.  Surely it is just as easy to style a svelte body as it is to go rogue just for the sake of it. But Toyota persists down their new path and now makes a Prius that is equally ugly. Goodness knows why.

Or maybe Lexus know their target audience very well and don't really care about those who wouldn't buy one anyway leaving them to seek greener pastures? Sales are up, reputation is iron clad, so they must be doing something right.

I like thie NX thingy but my $50k+ would probably go elsewhere.

YOU LIKE WHAT I DON'T LIKE THEREFORE YOU'RE DUMB.

Edited for brevity.

You can get a X1 fully loaded for $56k which would likely meet far better my expectations for a luxury small CUV.

Now I know I am going to be on my own on this one but I think I would have more satisfaction driving a loaded 2017 Escape Titanium than this NX.
