I thought these cars were supposed to hit the road like this quarter?  how much delay is it from original delivery date?
He said 500k cars BY 2018....seems quite far off of that possibility

Tesla has listed their goal as a 500k vehicle run-rate by sometime in 2018.
Meaning, at some point in 2018, Tesla will be producing 10000 vehicles per week.

I wish that the company would be upfront and realistic.  It would increase their credibility and enhance the entire EV market.  I really want Tesla to succeed, but they need to be a little more responsible - they're a public company.

Musk himself said "by" 2018.

Isn't that different than saying "in" 2018?

Either way, it looks like the denial spin machine is revving up!

It's almost like Trump: "Who knew this could be so difficult?" LOL

Tesla had planned to build 100k Model III per year leading up to the reveal.
After 400K reservations (and $400M in the bank for them), Tesla pivoted and said they would dramatically scale up their goals.

At this point, investors and reservations owners are happy with the progress Tesla is making.
If they don't make all of their aggressive goals, for sure they will make more than 100K Model III's in 2018, and they will make a goodly dent in the backlog of reservations.

Every other auto maker wishes they had the same "problem".  HA!

I can wait for my Tesla, no rush :)
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

Unless you find a cancelled reservation at a dealer, I understand that the wait for a Bolt is close to a year. :(

I doubt it.  Other carmakers make money.  Tesla loses it hand over fist.

Carmakers ultimate goal is to make money.

Yeah, but people rag on Toyota all the time for making cars that people buy in droves.  Are you sure the objective of the car business is to make money?

For the car companies and the money that backs them?  Yes.

At some point, if you can't make money...your car company will cease to exist regardless of product.

Look at Mazda, easily makes more interesting cars in every segment than Toyota does, what do the unwashed, uneducated masses buy, Toyota, why, because less interesting. People do not want interesting cars in the lower end of the market.

I disagree. I think they buy Toyota because they are educated. Most reliable, great resale, etc.

Most people can't afford a more car every few years, so when they buy they want want the"best" they can afford. And it's tough to beat a Toyota for problem free motoring

I think their best sellers (Rav4, Corolla, Camry) are boring segments in general. No car I've ever driven in those segments were exciting.

Well, some would argue that the CX-5, Mazda 3 & Mazda 6 are more exciting in those very same segments... not as exciting as a 911, or IS-F though, so I get where you're going.

To the average "driver:, Boring is good. They have NO interest in actually driving and a car is an appliance to be put up with for the morning commute which most of them hate. Unbelievable to those of us who enjoy driving but the auto ENTHUSIAST may actually be a smaller percentage of the "driving" public than EV owners.
