Is KIA the only one not delivering cars?
« on: December 19, 2023, 08:25:18 am »
In the news today, KIA is holding cars at a compound until the new year to deliver them.

New Kia vehicles that have arrived from overseas are sitting on a storage lot in Wolverton, Ont., purposely locked up even though customers have been waiting months and months — some well over a year — to get their vehicles.

The new cars are being withheld from Kia's Ontario dealerships — and reportedly from many more across the country — as part of a controversial plan by Kia Canada to game the number of sales in the last six weeks of the year.

Glad someone outed them. That is so sketchy and anti consumer.

They can't catch fire if they are in storage, amirite?

It’s a quarantine, if they don’t catch fire in 40 days they can be delivered.  ;D

Many car companies have done stuff like this. Gaming the sales numbers.

Channel stuffing is the way they typically used to do it, particularly the Big 3. But they don't have enough product to channel stuff these days. So it looks like this is the way they're doing it.

Some other companies used to consider cars on the boat as "sold" even before they were actually sold to customers.

Seems like they'll use creative accounting however it suits them.

Bizarre.  Reminds of some of the shenanigans that Mitsubishi was doing in the early 1990's.

Why they thought they could announce a scheme like this over a video call to a 100 dealers without it getting out to the public is beyond me.

Non-stop bad publicity for Kia/Hyundai.

More whistle blowers need to come out and call out more automakers that do this (in some way or form).

Premature engine failures, fiery battery packs, and now this.

I'm starting to think Hyundai isn't particularly well run...

Well, I guess they could get a pass on those?

New to market and all of that?

I'd say so. Those vehicles came out over 30 years ago.

I had business dealings with Hyundai nearly 30 tears ago. They were pretty sketchy/sleazy then. Sounds like not a lot has changed with Hyundai/Kia today. I'd certainly think twice about buying one.

If I was one of the people who ordered a new Kia months ago and was still waiting, I'd be livid upon hearing this news.  Likely livid enough to cancel the order and go buy a Honda, even if they cost more.

Who am I kidding, I would have just bought the Honda in the first place, though...
