This thing looks so cheap inside. And then they slapped on a LCD instrument cluster to make it look fancy. But it is crude.

I'll take my Explorer Platinum please with near-MDX finishings and 100 extra ponies.
The  Explorer Platinum is not worth the $. Very surprised. It's also a truck, not an SUV/CUV in ride quality.
Railton

Surprised. When I drove it I thought it was really nice. For $54k less the usual discounts a good deal.
You can't just have your characters announce how they feel.

I'm pretty sure the Trendline I tried had heated seats. ???

The lack of auto climate control on the base model is a turn off though. My Passat Trendline has it.

Honestly, I don't get the benefit of this auto climate control thing, please enlighten me as to why its a good thing?? The Montero and my Altima had it and I don't think I spent more than a few seconds on auto when I accidentally put the control knob to that setting.

My Subarus all had it, and so does my Passat. The VW system is pretty set and forget. It seems to have enough brains to know where to send the air, and how much fan speed to use. It's set at 21C and I typically never have to touch it. The Subaru system required more fiddling.

It's not a deal breaker, but for the price of even the Trendline, it's disappointing.

I've driven the Atlas twice now, and I like it very well. Huge inside, and a very comfortable ride without being a marshmellow. The drivetrain seems pretty refined. I never noticed a whole lot of road noise, but it might be the difference in tires/tire sizes.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

i don't find the inside to look that bad at all...i'd say it looks competitive at least.

the Explorer Platinum also looks good, but it's considerably more money than an Atlas...as well, i don't find it looks THAT much better, if any better (keeping in mind, i don't think the Atlas looks bad anyway).

Discerning interior quality from touched up online photos is a fool's game.    They all look pretty good.

I wouldn't have another car without dual climate control.  Our base model Passat has it.  My wife sets her side a couple of degrees cooler than my side and we're both comfortable.  Win, win!

Bigger, cheaper, more crudely finished version of the Touareg.....perfect for "Murica.

But its an actual 7 pass SUV as opposed to a Golf with high heels.....

"Golf with high heels"?  I think you are confusing the gen 1 Tiguan with the Touareg.

Agreed - the interior actually looks pretty good, IMO.  Nothing crude about it.  The exterior is a major zzzzzzzz though.

I have a friend who used to classify Toyota as a company that featured the "Three B's" of the auto industry:  Bland, Banal and Boring.

VW now has the Three B's....in spades.

Haven't they always been a bit.. Dull.

It's a dull I generally like though.  Not as much on the Atlas, but I like the Golf (obviously), the new Tiguan looks good, and I don't even mind the Passat.

Perhaps I m in the minority as a nitwit with my head up my ass but I find the new RX to be quite a good looking machine.
