Bigger, cheaper, more crudely finished version of the Touareg.....perfect for "Murica.
Old Jag convertible...one itch I won't have to scratch again.

But its an actual 7 pass SUV as opposed to a Golf with high heels.....

Since it's built on the MQB platform I suppose it could be called a Golf with high heels....

Quote
In base trim, the Atlas gets...  and unheated manual six-way driver and four-way passenger seats.

This is surprising since even the base Golf comes with heated seats in Canada.

I'm pretty sure the Trendline I tried had heated seats. ???

The lack of auto climate control on the base model is a turn off though. My Passat Trendline has it.

sure, but perfect for VW period...the Touareg was too expensive (started at $53k) to make sense...this is the perfect vehicle to compete against the CR-V, Sorento, Journey, etc...i can see them selling a fair amount of these.

Honestly, I don't get the benefit of this auto climate control thing, please enlighten me as to why its a good thing?? The Montero and my Altima had it and I don't think I spent more than a few seconds on auto when I accidentally put the control knob to that setting.

Except this is going against the Pilot, Highlander, Pathfinder, etc.

The new Tiguan is the competitor for those you have listed.

Had it in the 5, don't have it in the Golf.

Not a dealbreaker but I do miss it.  You just set the temperature and be done with it. I never used "auto" mode either but preferred not having to adjust between red and blue to be comfortable.

true, but there is overlap with the Atlas...so if you need a bit more room than the Tiguan, you can move up to the Atlas.

If its hot, the know goes to full blue for a few minutes till the car is moving and cooled down, when its cold, usually stays on full hot to keep windows clear and feet warm, to each his own but I've never give this feature a second thought. Heated/cooled seats and a heated steering wheel, thats happening on the next vehicle though  ;D

not a deal breaker for me, but i don't mind it...i set it once, and it stays there....i never have to fiddle around with it...not a big deal for short drives, but on long drives, it's nice to have the cabin kept to a constant comfortable temperature...our cars also have the auto-defog feature too, so if the moisture sensor detects too much humidity, it activates the A/C unit to pull the moisture out of the air so the windows don't fog up (like can happen when it is about to rain or already raining).

Yep, I never understood 'auto' until I started regularly driving cars with the feature....set it once and forget it, awesome on those long commutes where the exterior conditions are changing (sun peaking in and out, rain, etc) I am always comfortable.
Not a total deal breaker thou.....I mean, of 9 cars I only own 2 with this feature :P That said, if I was buying a modern car to daily drive, it would be a must for me.

This thing looks so cheap inside. And then they slapped on a LCD instrument cluster to make it look fancy. But it is crude.

I'll take my Explorer Platinum please with near-MDX finishings and 100 extra ponies.

I'm generally a fan of VW's styling & most of what they bring to the table, but just can't seem to warm up to this. The outdated Tourag is MUCH better looking to me! But guess they'll sell well with our neighbours to the south

The  Explorer Platinum is not worth the $. Very surprised. It's also a truck, not an SUV/CUV in ride quality.
