Here for 2012 only is a Special Version (SV) of the Mazda MX-5, the car formerly known as the Miata. With only 180 available for purchase (make that 179, I suppose) this will be an exclusive vehicle. Although it isn’t drastically different from a regular MX-5, it certainly packs in some desirable features at a desirable price.

The MX-5 has a starting MSRP of $28,995 for the GX version, the GS is $35,790, while the GT is a whopping $39,995. Meanwhile the SV, for 2012, is just $33,845 and it combines some of the features that you’d find on the GS and the GT for much less — and it looks a lot cooler too!

All MX-5s come standard with a 2.0 L, four-cylinder engine that outputs 167 hp and 140 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels through either a five-speed manual, six-speed automatic or six-speed manual. The GX is the only model that is equipped with the five-speed, while all others come with the six-speed.

To the GX model, the SV adds or modifies the six-speed manual transmission, Velocity Red exterior, Brilliant Black power retractable hard top (PRHT), 17-inch gunmetal-coloured alloy wheels, Brilliant Black exterior door mirrors and roll bar garnish, black leather-trimmed seating w/sand stitching, heated seats, leather steering wheel w/piano black trim and sand stitching, leather parking brake w/sand stitching, leather-like door trim w/sand stitching, piano black decoration panel, alloy pedals, auto a/c, external thermometer and trip computer.

The SV is not fully loaded, but it seems to have all the essentials one may be looking for. Although it is missing a few features. Missing features in the SV: from the GS includes the limited-slip differential and sports suspension, and missing from the GT are the Xenon headlamps — the rest can stay on the shelf as far as I’m concerned.

The weather is looking warmer and I’m ready to drop the top for some spring fun this week, in this hot looking little car.
