NEW FOR 2014:

– Engine improvements: new fuel injectors, oil pan baffle
– Suspension tweaks
– Optional Premium Interior Package for Premium trim

Since its launch, hardly a year has gone by where Nissan’s crack team of engineers hasn’t finessed the mighty GT-R supercar. For 2014, they’ve tinkered with the powertrain and suspension to improve its performance at the limit.

Under the hood, new fuel injectors have been fitted to improve torque outputs between 4,500 and 6,000 rpm, while an oil pan baffle has been fitted to ensure the car remains properly lubricated during hard cornering and when exploring the car’s 315 km/h top speed. As with high-end Mercedes-Benz AMG products, every GT-R will now wear a plaque bearing the signature of the Takumi craftsperson who assembled the engine.

Time on the track has also led Nissan to fit different front suspension link bushes, and a new front anti-roll bar to reduce the roll-centre height. New shocks and dampers have been fitted. The whole lot aims to keep the car in alignment when it’s pushed hard.

What’s more likely to be noticed is the optional Premium Interior Package which adds semi-aniline hand-stitched Red Amber leather upholstery to the seats, door trims, steering wheel, armrest, and instrument cluster. It’s a nice touch to what is otherwise a no-nonsense interior.

The GT-R uses a 545-hp, 463 lb-ft of torque 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 with six-speed dual-clutch transmission and independent rear transaxle all-wheel drive system. The transaxle includes hill start assist. Power is transmitted through an electronically-controlled all-wheel drive system specifically developed for the GT-R; it is rear-biased and can vary torque split from 0:100 to 50:50 depending on speed, lateral acceleration, steering angles, tire slip, road surface and yaw rate. The body is hybrid construction containing steel, die-cast aluminum and carbon fibre.

The GT-R is offered in two trims, Premium and Black Edition.

Features on the Premium include 20-inch 10-spoke forged aluminum wheels, adaptive dampers, rear spoiler, fender vents, automatic HID headlamps, LED daytime running lights, LED brake lights, dual power folding heated exterior mirrors, UV tinted glass, proximity key with push-button start, Bluetooth, garage door opener, dual-zone climate control, cabin filter, power windows with one-touch driver’s side auto up/down, power door locks, cruise control, tilt and telescoping steering column with integrated gauges, speed-sensitive wipers, sun visors with illuminated vanity mirrors, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, dual 12-volt power outlets, leather and suede cloth upholstery, eight-way power driver’s seat, four way power passenger’s seat, heated front seats, leather-wrapped magnesium paddles for manual shifting, leather-warpped steering wheel, gearshift, and parking brake, aluminum pedals, carbon fibre and aluminum interior trim, 7.0-inch navigation screen, reverse camera, Multi-Function display for vehicle information and performance, 11-speaker AM/FM/CD/MP3 Bose sound system, USB port, aux-in jack, satellite radio, tire-pressure monitor, anti-theft system.

The Premium Interior Package adds red amber hand-stitched semi-aniline leather front seat and interior treatment.

The Black Edition adds black-painted six-spoke 20-inch forged alloy wheels, red and black Recaro leather-appointed seats, red and black interior trim, dark headliner, and carbon fibre rear spoiler.
