For 2015, Mercedes-Benz replaces the CL-Class with a coupe version of its range-topping S-Class. While the name is new, the concept is the same, with this car being the brand’s top-tier two-door. The S-Class coupe comes in three models: the range starts with the S 550 4MATIC, powered by a 4.6L bi-turbo V8 that makes 449 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque, and steps up to the S 63 AMG 4MATIC, which uses a bi-turbo 5.5L V8 good for 577 hp and 664 lb-ft. Finally, there’s the S 65 AMG, run by a 6.0L bi-turbo V12 that produces 621 hp and 737 lb-ft.
S 550 and S 63 models are AWD, while the S 65 is RWD; all three use seven-speed automatic transmissions, that in the S 63 being a twin-clutch type.
The S 550 comes standard with 19-inch wheels and tires, power trunk with hands-free access, intelligent LED headlights, panoramic sunroof, AMG styling package, Burmester surround sound stereo, COMAND online, touchpad, head-up display, 360-degree camera, Nappa leather upholstery, wood-and-leather-trimmed steering wheel, active blind spot and lane keeping assists, cross traffic assist, magic vision control, pre-safe, crosswind assist, adaptive brake with hold function, run-flat tires, dynamic cornering assist and distronic plus with steering assist.
S 63 trim adds 20-inch wheels, sports-tuned air suspension, speed-sensitive sport steering, sports exhaust system, upgraded brakes, AMG-tuned all-wheel drive and red-painted brake calipers.
S 65 models get electro-mechanical steering, electric parking brake, sport suspension with magic body control and curve tilting function, Swarovsky crystal LED headlights, exclusive Nappa leather upholstery, air balance package, and night view assist.
