NEW FOR 2014:

-Redesigned model

The S-Class is the ultimate Mercedes-Benz sedan, and for 2014 it’s all-new. It comes in three trims, with a choice of two engines and three wheelbase lengths. The line starts with the S550 short-wheelbase model, powered by a 4.6L turbocharged V8 generating 449 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque; that engine is shared with the long-wheelbase version of the S 550. The S 63 AMG also rides on the stretched platform, but gets a 5.5L turbocharged V8 capable of 577 hp and 664 lb-ft.

All three models are branded with Benz’s 4MATIC designation, indicating their use of the brand’s all-wheel drive system. S 550 trim gets a seven-speed automatic transmission, while the S 63 trades up to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

As the brand’s top model, the S-Class comes with the longest list of standard kit, which in the S 550 (equipment is the same in short- and long-wheelbase models) includes eco start/stop, air suspension, electro-mechanical power steering, electric parking brake, 19-inch wheels, power trunk with handsfree access, intelligent LED headlights, panoramic sunroof, surround sound stereo, Comand online, soft-close doors, ambient lighting, leather upholstery, 16-way power front seats with memory, wood and leather-trimmed steering wheel, attention assist, collision prevention assist, magic vision control, pre-safe and pre-safe impulse, crosswind assist, adaptive brake with hold function, rain-sensing wipers, run-flat tires with pressure monitoring, and stability control with dynamic cornering assist.

S 63 AMG trim comes with even more stuff: 20-inch wheels, high-performance brakes with red-painted calipers, sport-tuned air suspension, steering, and exhaust, “passion” leather upholstery, and “dinamica” roofliner.
