Changes are in options and standard features for Mercedes-Benz’s big GL-Class SUV, which carries on in four trims for 2014. The line begins with the GL 350 Bluetec, powered by a 3.0L turbodiesel V6 making 240 hp and 455 lb-ft of torque. From there, step up to the GL 450, which uses a biturbo 4.6L V8 producing 362 hp and 406 lb-ft, an engine shared with the GL 550 which gets 429 hp and 516 lb-ft. On top is the GL 63 AMG with its 5.5L biturbo engine making 550 hp and 560 lb-ft. All models are all-wheel drivers, and share a seven-speed automatic transmission.

GL 350 and 450 models come standard with electric power steering, air suspension, steerable bi-xenon headlights, dual-zone automatic climate control, LED daytime running lights and taillights, garage door opener, heated steering wheel, ambient lighting, artico leather-trimmed dash and seat upholstery Comand online, satellite radio, sunroof, power-folding third-row seats, 20-inch wheels, illuminated front door sills, power tailgate, attention assist, crosswind assist, pre-safe, collision prevention assist, adaptive highbeam assist, parktronic with active parking assist, and a 360-degree camera.

GL 550 trim adds four-zone automatic climate control, keyless go, ambient lighting with three colour settings, artico leather-trimmed dash, leather upholstery, Comand online navigation, 14-speaker stereo, panoramic sunroof, multicontour and climate control front seats with massage function, heated rear seats, soft-close door and trunk, 21-inch wheels, and passive blind spot and lane-keeping assist.

GL 63 AMG models get sport-tuned air suspension, red-painted brake calipers, and radar-based cruise control.
