Mercedes-Benz expands its lineup for 2014 with the CLA-Class, a subcompact sedan based on the B-Class hatchback. The range begins with the front-wheel drive CLA 250, powered by a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder making 208 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque; move up to the CLA 45 AMG, however, and the same engine is tuned for a wicked 355 hp and 332 lb-ft, put to the ground through Benz’s 4MATIC all-wheel drive system.

Both cars use dual-clutch seven-speed automatics, but the AMG’s is tuned for crisper performance.

CLA 250 standard equipment includes a lowered sport suspension, electromechanical power steering, electric parking brake, 17-inch wheels, heated and power-adjustable side mirrors, 5.8-inch display screen, reflector beam headlights, ambient lighting, ‘artico’ leather upholstery, manual climate control, power windows, 12-way power front seats with memory, Nappa leather steering wheel, split-folding rear seatback, attention assist, collision prevention assist, seven airbags, adaptive brake with hold function, rain-sensing wipers, run-flat tires, and stability control with dynamic cornering assist.

CLA 45 AMG models add 18-inch wheels, upgraded cooling system, high-performance brakes, sport exhaust and suspension upgrades, speed-sensitive power steering, bi-Xenon headlights, red brake calipers, artico/dinamica upholstery, aluminum interior trim, flat-bottomed steering wheel, AMG floor mats, and three-stage stability control with dynamic cornering assist.
