The MKX may not be the brightest star in the premium midsize crossover sector, but Lincoln’s version of the Ford Edge offers buyers a spacious cabin, generous standard features list, and refined driving dynamics. Together, they make it worth considering – especially for buyers that prioritize comfort and convenience over all-out performance.
Where its Ford sibling offers a turbocharged four-cylinder engine as well as two V6s (one 3.5 and one 3.7L), only the best will do for Lincoln. The 3.7L V6 makes 305 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, and is coupled to a six-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. You won’t find performance torque-vectoring differentials or adaptive suspension here, just a smooth ride and a well-insulated cabin. And while Lincoln isn’t the last name in handling, the MKX’s light and accurate steering and connected suspension give it a leg up – or rather a tire up on the Lexus RX. Only the massive optional 22-inch wheels stand in the way of a smooth ride. They do look good, though.
The MKX comes in one of two trims (100A, 101A). The base model (100A) comes equipped with MyLincoln Touch capacity HVAC controls, with Sync voice command, a semi-digital instrument cluster with two reconfigurable screens, heated and ventilated leather seats, heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated reclining rear seats, intelligent key with push-button start, remote start, 18-inch wheels, rain-sensing wipers, reverse camera, power tailgate, adaptive HID lights, and capless fuel-filler system.
Equipment Group 101A brightens things up with blingy 20-inch chrome wheels, and an oversized panoramic sunroof with power sunshade, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, navigation, and a THX II certified sound system with 14 speakers.
A Wood Package adds extended wood trim to the steering wheel and other parts of the interior, while a Limited Edition Package adds ceramic leather upholstery, ceramic-coloured door inserts, as well as a ceramic-coloured dash-pad. Those with an affinity for denim clothing, or those who have young children would be wise to avoid it. Elsewhere on the options list are 22-inch wheels, as well as the Sight and Sound package, which groups the giant Vista panoramic roof with a THX II sound system.
