NEW FOR 2014:
– 2.0T R-Spec receives sport performance seats
– Six-speed manual receives hill-start assist and carbon synchronizer rings
– Eight-speed automatic receives rev-matched downshifts
Following last year’s major update, Hyundai’s engineers have focused their efforts on giving the Genesis Coupe’s drivetrain a little bit of extra polish; both manual and automatic transmissions gain added features. Six-speed manual transmissions get hill-start assist and have a smoother shift action thanks to carbon synchronizer rings. The optional eight-speed automatic now rev-matches when downshifting via the steering column mounted paddles.
Despite sharing a name and a chassis with the Genesis Sedan, the Coupe is an entirely different beast targeted at a more youthful demographic. The entry level 2.0T model offers 274 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque, and competes favourably in the powertrain stakes against typical sport compacts like the VW GTI, Honda Civic Si, and even the Ford Focus ST. Meanwhile, the 348-hp 3.8-litre V6 offers more punch than premium-branded rivals like the Infiniti Q60 and BMW 435i. All drive the rear wheels via a six-speed manual; an eight-speed automatic is offered on all trims other than the 2.0T R-Spec.
Features on the 2.0T include 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control, outside temperature display, airbags (front, front seat, side curtain), six-speaker AM/FM/CD/MP3 audio, satellite radio, iPod/USB/auxiliary input jacks, Bluetooth, body colour dual power-heated mirrors, centre console with armrest, chrome-tipped dual exhaust, cloth upholstery, six-way manual driver’s seat, fog lights, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, Supervision instrument cluster, power door locks with remote keyless entry and alarm, power windows with driver/front passenger express down and auto-up with pinch protection, projector beam headlamps, LED tail lights, 50/50 split folding ear seat, solar tint glass, steering wheel mounted audio and cruise control switches.
2.0T R-Spec adds 19-inch alloy wheels, Brembo brakes, front strut tower brace, sport calibrated suspension, high-performance summer tires, performance seats with sport bolsters, Torsen limited-slip differential, and a rear spoiler.
2.0T Premium adds (to 2.0T) 6.5-inch display audio system with navigation, 10-speaker Infinity sound system, heated front seats, side mirrors with integrated turn signals, power driver’s seat with power lumbar support, and a power sunroof.
3.8GT builds on R-Spec and Premium and adds aluminum foot pedals, engine cover, auto-dimming rearview mirror, garage door opener, metal-grain interior accents, illuminated driver door scuff plate, HID headlights, LED daytime running lights, proximity key with push-button start, acoustic film glass, leather upholstery, leather-wrapped parking brake, and passenger sunvisor extension.
