NEW FOR 2014:
Well, it wears a new model name, but technically the 4 Series is simply the latest two-door version of the well-known 3 Series. The new moniker is part of BMW’s strategy to use odd numbers for four-door cars, and even numbers for two doors.
Offered as a coupe and convertible, the 4 Series shares its trim designations and engines with the 3 Series: the 428i uses a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 241 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, and the 435i gets a 3.0L turbo six-cylinder good for 300 hp and 300 lb-ft. BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system is optional in 428i and 435i coupe, and 428i convertible models.
All coupes start with a six-speed manual transmission that can be optioned to an eight-speed automatic. All-wheel drive comes bundled with the automatic in the 428i coupe, and is standard in all convertible models.
Standard kit in the 428i coupe and convertible includes auto start/stop with deactivation button, brake energy regeneration, electric power steering, adaptive LED brakelights, ambient interior lighting, automatic Xenon headlights with LED corona rings, tire pressure monitoring, eight airbags including driver and front passenger knee blockers, anthracite roofliner, BMW Sport doorsills, multifunction sport leather-trimmed steering wheel, tilt-and-telescopic steering column, auto up/down power windows, eight-way power heated Dakota leather front sport seats with adjustable side bolsters and thigh support, automatic climate control, instrument cluster with high-resolution extended information display, Bluetooth, auxiliary input, USB audio integration and pre-wiring for satellite radio.
435i coupe and convertible models add a heated M-sport steering wheel, M sport doorsills, and 40/20/40 split folding rear seats with through-loading.
