Wrangler expected to still play to Jeep faithful

Countering rumours earlier this year the Wrangler could convert to unibody construction, sources have told Automotive News the Trail Rated softtop will continue as a body-on-frame SUV.

Expected to be redesigned for 2017, Chrysler must make changes to the iconic model for fuel efficiency but cannot risk making the Wrangler less capable. In fact, Jeep spokesperson Todd Goyer told AN the next iteration “will be the most capable Wrangler ever.”

One way Jeep will make their most popular model more efficient is by employing aluminum construction for the body, dropping some weight much like the 2015 Ford F-150.
