The 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class was today named World Car of the Year (WCOTY) in a New York auto show press conference, one of three Mercedes-Benz models to take home trophies in this year’s voting; the Benz S-Class Coupe was voted best luxury car, and the AMG GT is top performance car.

In fact, four of five of this year’s awards went to German vehicles and all five are of European origin: BMW’s i8 was the jurors’ favourite green car, and the Citroen C4 Cactus was called World Car Design of the Year.

All three automakers have won WCOTY awards before: the Mercedes S-Class sedan was last year’s inaugural World Luxury Car; BMW won 2014 green car honours for the i3, and 2006’s design award also went to the Citroen C4.

In 2014, the Audi was the overall winner, and Porsche’s 911 GT3 was top performance car.
