Brand new V8 engine will debut in Mercedes-Benz’s new 911 fighter

It’s official: the new Mercedes-Benz AMG GT, set to go on sale in March of next year, will receive a new 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine producing 503 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. And the German company announced it in the best way possible.

The video above, from Daimler, explains the technical bits of the new AMG hand-built monster. Instead of solely giving us the numbers, the video dives inside the animated cutaway to give us a peak at how it all works.

With a dry weight of 460 lbs, the M178 engine makes use of lightweight pistons and flow-optimized cylinder heads.

Those looking for the engine without the sky-high price will also be able to find it in future C63 AMG models.
