While Chrysler is busy bringing smaller diesels to North America, the four-pot in the Cherokee won’t be one of them
The Cherokee gets four- and six-cylinder options and a nine-speed transmission in its native North America, but across the Atlantic things are much more interesting for the resurrected model.
Set to debut at the Geneva Auto Show next month, Jeep has announced they will equip the new Cherokee with a 2.0-litre diesel engine in two states of tune (140 ho and 170 hp, both with 258 lb-ft of torque) depending on your choice of transmission. What? Choice of transmission?
Not only does Europe get a diesel, a Fiat-sourced oil burner, they’ll also get the choice of six-speed manual or nine-speed automatic transmissions.
However, most European countries won’t have the option of our 2.4-litre Tigershark four-cylinder engine. Yeah, we’re sure they’re crying about that.
