No reason given for order sent to dealers

Late last week, GM sent out a stop sale-order for all 2013 and 2014 Chevrolet Cruzes equipped with 1.4-litre turbo engines. The order, which tells dealers to hold on to their stock, was not given with a reason attached.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting one dealer is completely flummoxed by the move:

“This is something we don’t see every day,” a dealer told the Wall Street Journal. “To not be given a reason must mean GM has spotted an issue and is still trying to get its arms around it.”

This comes after GM’s ignition recall woes expand and newly minted CEO Mary Barra has issued a full, intensive look at GM’s pending safety investigations.

UPDATE: The reason for the stop-sale was due to a right front axle shaft that “can fracture and separate without warning” while in operation and the recall affects some 172,000 2013 and 2014 Cruzes equipped with the 1.4-litre turbo engine.
