Charger Hellcat sub 3 second 0-60 mph time requires drag radials

America’s new high-powered V8 monsters are in a race — literally — to 60 mph (96.56 km/h).

General Motors fired off the first shot with official 0-60 mph timing for the Corvette Z06. With its fresh-out-of-the-wrapper eight-speed automatic, Chevy’s high-end sports car gets up to 60 in 2.95 seconds on street tires. It’ll also put down a 10.95 second quarter-mile time.

To put this in perspective, a number of dragways will require you to put a cage and other safety equipment in your car if runs any lower than a 12 second quarter.

Not to be forgotten, the seven-speed manual Z06 can get up to 60 mph in a still very respectable 3.2 seconds on to a 11.2 second quarter mile time.

But, for a significantly lower price, one can pick up Dodge’s newest super sedan and crack off similar times.

According to TorqueNews, the new Dodge Charger Hellcat can get up to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds when shod with drag radials. It also cracked off a 10.7 second quarter mile. On street tires, the Charger Hellcat can still do the quarter in a respectable 11.2 seconds despite its 4,500 girth and rear seats for the kids.

Horsepower wars truly are the best kind of wars.
