Spartanburg, South Carolina – BMW will invest nearly US$900 million and add 300 new jobs in 2012 to its plant in South Carolina. The company intends to expand its X-model family with the new BMW X4 at the plant.

The plant has built more than two million vehicles since the company began U.S. production in 1994.

With the 300 new jobs, the plant will raise its production capacity to 300,000 units and will employ nearly 7,500 people by the end of the year. Since the original 1992 decision to build the plant, the company’s only assembly plant in the U.S., BMW has invested nearly $6 billion.

In 2011, the plant produced 276,065 vehicles for over 130 markets worldwide, a 73 per cent increase over 2010.
