Maserati makes surprise appearance as Ford is left out of the game entirely

The Super Bowl is the Everest of automotive advertising for the year. Car builders pull out all the stops to show us the best they have to offer, sometimes with cinematic brilliance and other times with humour featuring the world’s most famous celebrities.

So, without further ado, here are all the auto-flavoured spots featured during the most expensive advertising airtime of the year.

Maserati – Strike

Maserati is taking aim at the BMW 5-Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, and Audi A6 with their spot featuring the new Ghibli. The  baby Mazer will go head to head with the Germans soon, allowing a lower point of entry for those seeking Italian style and brutality.

Chevrolet – Romance

Chevrolet is starting to push their HD line of Silverados and there’s no better way to do it than with a cowboy, a bull, a truck, and some lucky heifers.

Need For Speed Movie – Super Bowl Trailer

March 14th marks the day you’ll be able to see Need For Speed in theatres instead of playing it on your console or computer at home. While the verdict is out (way, way out) on whether Jesse Pinkman Aaron Paul can bring his particular acting magic to the racing franchise, there will certainly be a fair amount of automotive porn for gearheads in this flick.

Hyundai – Dad’s Sixth Sense

Hyundai, promoting their new Genesis sedan, attempts to instil some peace of mind in a humorous way with their first Super Bowl spot of the evening.

Chevrolet – Life

Chevrolet has also launched their new #PurpleRoads campaign during the Super Bowl with a touching tribute to cancer survivors. General Motors will donate up to $1 million to the cause. More information can be found on their website.

WeatherTech – You Can’t Do That

Not all automotive advertising is from automakers. WeatherTech, a company that seemingly has a perpetual lease on nine pages of every monthly automotive mag, was showcasing their contribution to the American economy in their Super Bowl spot.

Volkswagen – Wings

German engineers, angel wings, and rainbow farts. This spot from Volkswagen was probably one of the funnier ads of the evening. And people say Germans don’t know how to do comedy.

CarMax – Slow Clap

Used car megastore CarMax brought their brand of humour to Super Bowl Sunday, falling flat like many of the tires in their lots.

Toyota – 2014 Highlander

Toyota brings together Terry Crews, the Muppets, and a strange psychedelic trip to market their now 8-passenger Highlander.

Cure Auto Insurance – Call An Audible

Dropping a bleeped-out f-bomb is all this insurance company could afford, it seems.

Cure Auto Insurance – Best In Game

And if you didn’t have enough of them the first time…

Jeep – Restless

Jeep pushes the new Cherokee in their Super Bowl spot, pandering to those itching to get off the couch and explore.

Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee – Seinfeld Reunion

Jerry and George return, along with Newman, in a spot featuring a classic AMC and Tom’s Restaurant. You can watch the whole episode here.

Audi – Doberhuahua

It seems the Germans have a lock on automotive funny this year. Audi’s spot featured the ultimate in canine compromise, the Doberhuahua.

Kia – The Truth

Kia enlists Morpheus for their spot featuring the new K900 luxury full-size sedan. Is Kia’s use of an out-dated pop culture reference any reflection on their new offering? Let’s hope not.

Honda – #HugFest

Bruce Willis foregoes blowing up a city block in favour of showing a softer side in this spot for Honda highlighting safety…and hugs.

Chrysler – America’s Import

Chrysler, for the last few years, has pulled out all the stops for the Super Bowl with regards to celebrity appearances. This year was no different as Bob Dylan graced the screen along with the Pentastar’s new Chrysler 200 sedan.

Hyundai – Nice

The Big Bang Theory’s Johnny Galecki drives his ‘nice’ Elantra while trying to hit on a girl to disastrous effect in this Super Bowl spot.

Jaguar – British Villians/The Rendezvous

Jaguar attempts to reincarnate their bad boy image through the use of British baddies and a glorious F-Type Coupe.
