Standard Challenger SRT will deliver 485 hp and 475 lb-ft
We’ve reported previously on the oft-rumoured Hellcat V8 due in future SRT products.
Now it’s here and it’s official.
For 2015, Dodge is rolling out the Challenger SRT Hellcat powered by their new 6.2-litre supercharged V8 developing over 600 hp. It will be offered with both six-speed manual and eight-speed TorqueFlite transmissions. Torque numbers for the new engine were not disclosed.
The new Hellcat will join the standard Challenger SRT model, itself producing 485 hp and 475 lb-ft of torque (a bump of 15 hp and 5 lb-ft) from a 6.4-litre naturally aspirated V8.
Both cars will be built in Brampton, Ontario.
When the new line of Challenger SRT models goes on sale, sometime after production starts late this year, the Hellcat V8 will be the most powerful V8 ever sold by Dodge. Also, the Challenger SRT Hellcat will be equipped with the largest brake package ever fitted to a SRT vehicle, featuring 15.4-inch Brembo two-piece rotors and six-piston calipers.
A new Drive Modes feature will debut on the Challenger SRT cars with multiple settings – Default, Sport, Track, and Custom – and can be triggered by pushing the SRT button on the instrument panel or selected through areas within the Uconnect infotainment system.
All of these upgrades, and numerous others, are wrapped in fresh sheet metal, revealed last month in New York.
Pricing (and hopefully some torque figures) will be available closer to launch.
