Test drove this exact model in month or so ago.  It's not the model I was interested in really as I don't care about all those active safety features and what not, but they only had this one Genesis sedan available so I was stuck with this one.  On that day we also test drove other premium/luxury vehicles sold in my city, they were the VW CC and Caddy ATS (2.0L, RWD, manual).  The Genesis was on another level of luxury that the other cars we have driven haven't possessed.  It's crazy quiet at all speeds and soaks up road imperfections like no other.  There's no denying that the Genesis is one attractive vehicle.  We were less impressed with the interior just because it seemed like button overload, but when you have so many electronic options selected on this trim you should kind of expect that.  This was the first car I've driven with the lane assist feature and I have to say I'm not a fan.  I like to steer my own vehicle thanks.  The V6 engine seemed a bit underpowered but adequate none the less.

In the end we thought the VW CC was the best of the bunch.  It offered a good balance of the 3 vehicles, being more luxury feeling than the ATS and more sporting than the Genesis.  I really hated the ATS interior and think it would be very dated in a short period of time.

Add a station wagon body style and you'll really have something.

I'd pick this over last week's RAM and keep the 15k$ change to rent a truck when needed.

^^This. A twist on the same idea would be to also buy a truck.  ;)

Still can't get over $55k.  Fricken ouch.  HST on $55k is another $7150, plus ECP/Rustproofing (if so inclined) and this thing is easily a $65k on the road vehicle - not pocket change.  I mean, hell, you can get an Audi S4 for that (with a manual ;D).

EXACTLY. If I was in the market for a Luxury sports sedan the S4 would be my pick.

This thing is much larger than an A4/3 series is it not? I would expect this to compete against the CTS, 5 series and A6.

EDIT:
Ya here we go as the author suggests:
Acura RLX
Audi A6
BMW 5-Series
Lexus ES/GS Sedans
Mercedes E-Class
Volvo S80

This is a big car guys. If you haven't seen one in the flesh you should go have a look. Also missing from this list and I think its closest competitor especially when you factor in the price/feature content would be the Taurus SEL AWD or SHO.

I think in a luxury car ride softness and quietness in real world should be the first priority and figure 8 times + how much it leans in the corners - second. Hyundai is on the right track IMO.
I also prefer the old fashioned now hydraulic steering that is light but has excellent feedback.

While thats all fine and well, this car is bigger and I betcha it wont give you a peep of trouble. My buddys S4, while a beautiful car, has been the to dealer 2 or 3 times on a tow truck.
Lighten up Francis.....

While S4 is a SPORT Sedan, Genesis sedan is a luxury sedan that offers much more space and features for less than S4.

This is a type of car I'd buy if I was 20 years older.  S4, while I'd love to be able to afford one now, I'm hoping for one in 10 years.
