I'll have to watch this at home because it's 20 minutes.
looks interesting.

these British guys took a CityBike and climbed Mt. Ventoux in Europe.
This mini doc is about them coming to North America, taking a CityBike from NYC and going to Mt. Washington in New Hampshire and riding it up the mountain.

The Mt Washington auto road is 12.2km long with an average grade of 12%

I watch a few minutes and it looks really interesting!

I think Quad would dig this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfneUUh_1ko

We watched this last night and enjoyed it. Impressed that they got permission to ride on that road and park services even held back cars as long as they could. Its hard enough doing a climb like that on a regular bike but the lack of super low gearing on a city bike is crazy.  Also check out his other video about riding up Mt Ventoux. Great find

Just watched this....I would be dead after 1k  :rofl2:

Holy! That is horrific.

That was freakin' epic.

I still remember riding with friction down tube shifters and pedal straps.

Was looking into studded tires for winter use.  Uh, geez, a pair would cost quite a bit more than I paid for the bike!!

My last proper ride was October 11. Fack. Note to self: next winter, get yourself a winter bike.

Yeah, they're expensive. But if the other option is to not ride at all...

that's pretty cool!  Never had an old road bike, but when I started MTBing it came with similar pedal straps.
be fun to see something similar with a MTB

^^ I always liked my old Suntour thumb shifters (indexed, not friction) and think I could still live perfectly happily with them (or a modern equivalent.)

Toe clips were fine, but I have no desire to go back to those.

Looking for 26" or 700cc?

I have a pair of Nokian W240 700x42 I could lend you - good for everything but soft snow. Super heavy, though.

Also have  a single 26-inch Hakkapeliitta if you just want one on the front... not an aggressive tire so best for smooth ice.

and I see a few used sets on Kijijijijijijiji

the set of blizzaks I just bought for the car cost a whole lot more than any set of studded tires  I've ever bought for the bike.. and won't last nearly as long.  And while I like the car .. the bike is a whole lot more fun

Is that backwards as I feel bike tires wear out much faster than car tires. While I've never owned any bike winter tires I usually get around 10,000 at most out of my bike's summer tires which cost around $65 each.

Depends on the tires and what you are using them for.  Nokian studded tires of a few years ago are built super-tough with long-lasting carbide studs.  Used for commuting .. they will last for years and years - especially since my commute is around 15km round-trip so mileage is not super-high.

But, yes - in relative terms to summer tires, good winter studded tires are expensive.
