Fack...want a Fat Bike now

Yes you do..

Had a great, 2 hres ride today. Luckily a snowmobile tracked the entire trail I was planning to do. It rides so well and smooth on a snowmobile track. Traction is incredible on those things. For snow riding take a bike that can accept 5" tires. Mine are 4.6" and are doing the job but for snow, the wider, the better!

Looks great Guy   Yes, I should...

Guy i'm jealous!!!   We're STILL waiting for the ground to freeze.  It's sloppy goo right now.
 :'(

do it Snowy!

You're welcomed to come ride MSA with me anytime!  ;)

Interesting, I e thought a cross wind would have more of an impact on the disc brakes. 8 seconds over 40k :rofl2: Basically stop peddling for a fart at my level.

Old article for sure but funny: Shave the legs and gain 5 sec. over 40K???  :rofl2: Far less expensive than investing in a new bike..  :rofl2:

Guy .. for the fat bike ... could you see yourself using this as a daily winter-commuter .. or is it overkill .. and you would only want to use this bike for recreation.

tks

Probably overkill, it's pretty heavy for it's price. A Hybrid or touring bike is certainly better for commuting.

agreed.  plus the massive tires, while great in the snow, are more about moving slowy (compared to summer riding)     I look at putting something like the following tires on a hybrid / commuting or even beater mountain bike:  http://45nrth.com/products/tires/gravdal

I'll have to watch this at home because it's 20 minutes.
looks interesting.

these British guys took a CityBike and climbed Mt. Ventoux in Europe.
This mini doc is about them coming to North America, taking a CityBike from NYC and going to Mt. Washington in New Hampshire and riding it up the mountain.

The Mt Washington auto road is 12.2km long with an average grade of 12%

I watch a few minutes and it looks really interesting!

I think Quad would dig this

yeah .. I was just wondering.  Like I said in an earlier post .. my new commute bike is a marin muirwoods 29er (which is really a hybrid slanted towards the mountain bike style) with fattish 2.2 studded tires.  The skinny tires studded are OK on hardpack snow or smooth ice, but are not that good on rutted ice or unconsolidated sand/snow combo.

But, the fat-bike use in Edmonton has exploded in the last few years and I've started to see people using them on the streets (and not just the trails), so I was curious.

tks

ron

We watched this last night and enjoyed it. Impressed that they got permission to ride on that road and park services even held back cars as long as they could. Its hard enough doing a climb like that on a regular bike but the lack of super low gearing on a city bike is crazy.  Also check out his other video about riding up Mt Ventoux. Great find
