Lol.  GM really thinks the Chevrolet City Express (a rebadged Nissan NV200) is going to replace this?  I think for lighter applications, sure.  But for the guys that need the bigger vans, I can see them flocking to the Ford Transit, Mercedes Benz Sprinter and Ram Promaster.

Replace this? Probably not. But that's not the point it seems - they've decided to use their CAFE budget on something else.

Or they can just move to a Express/Savana 2500 or higher. The price difference is almost negligible.

It's likely a matter of time before GM offers an Opel Movano over here.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

  • Cars: Only the good cars. Plus a couple of motorcycles. And a boat.

A bit of the "Law of Unintended Consequences" at work here. CAFE mandates that corporate fleets must average a certain fuel economy, except for "Heavy Duty" vehicles over 8,500 pounds. So GM dumps it's "Light Duty" work vans thus forcing potential buyers to purchase more powerful (and therefore less efficient) "Heavy Duty" versions.

Excellent.

The fact that the competition now offers modern, fuel-efficient vans that don't need 8 cylinders to do the job is pure coincidence.

I like the new crop of full-sized vans. However I have the mental image of the NINE PASSENGER VAN being featured in too many major fatal highway crashes.

The only thing of substance being lost is the AWD model which was 1500-only.
