I believe it's direct sale at this point in time. It's pre-order and they won't ship until 2015. However, when it becomes available, they'll be sending out a test unit for me to try out.

looks interesting.   I'm on the fence with having something projected in front of me.

first test should be the "how fast can I take that on ramp before the device goes flying!"

ORLY?  I e-mailed them asking for a test unit and got no response.  They replied to you?  They are now on my boycott list if so lol

Because it's not just a GPS it provides text messaging, phone calls and much much more.

Yea...but first and foremost the GPS has to be good.  I'm not convinced that it will be real good at first try.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

What?  It has no GPS built in.  It uses everything from your phone.  So google maps.

I missed that too.    Since it's mainly just a projector, I'm not sure this will really take off in the long term.
I think the upcoming "infotainment" systems are becoming more linked with smartphones.

So the idea behind this system is really just to have everything projected in front of you, instead of on the dash screen.  (and the fact you control this will your hand gestures -- which by the way, while it keeps your eyes now on the road, instead of looking slightly down on the dash, it's now taking hands off the wheel!

Plus we're back to having some add on part that sits on the dash.

How long until cars get this projection feature built in?

There are several already where HUD is an option, it will probably explode into most models over the next few years would be my guess.  I'm really tempted to order one of these.....

They sent out an email blast yesterday to news writers (I think). I replied asking for a test unit when it becomes available and the PR jockey said they'd add me to "the list". Are you on "the list"?

Somthing came to mine after I read this:

Section 73(1) HTA states that "no person shall drive a motor vehicle upon a highway, with any sign, poster or other non-transparent material or object placed on the windshield or on any window of such motor vehicle; or with any object placed in, hung on or attached to the motor vehicle, in a manner that will obstruct the driver's view of the highway or any intersecting highway."

If the device is mounted in such a way above the dash that the projector unit blocks the like of sight above the hood line then it is illegal  :)

Yup.  The rules need to be changed to suit.  Even based on the rules, you are not allowed to install a clear film windshield protection like ClearPlex.

I got the same e-mail.  He didn't reply.  I now hate him

I disagree, people need to start following the rule about impairing vision out the windshield.

The Audi TT is a vehicle with impaired vision from the factory.  I'm sure a cell phone tucked in the corner of a windshield won't hurt.. ;D

non-transparent material or object

call me crazy, but the screen looks pretty transparent... as would the film spoken of.

if you can hang a privacy or sunshade for your kids window and it is legal, this has no chance of being illegal.
