It’s unfortunate, but I have to return the Mustang in exchange for something else. I’ll miss the beast but we had our fun together, although I leave the relationship a little battered and bruised.
The seats are missing the key ingredient for a sports car and that is some bolstering. My left knee is bruised from smacking against the speaker on the door panel — knee pads should be included with every purchase.
As far as fuel consumption, during normal driving I achieved a less-than-stellar 14L/100km, which is pretty much what is expected from a large, V8-powered vehicle. In highway driving I averaged 10L/100km, though.
But the million dollar question is: Which would I rather have — the Mazda MX-5 I drove last week or this week’s Ford Mustang GT? Well, for myself it would be hard to say as I already have dedicated vehicles for track and street. But for around town, there’s no question that the MX-5 delivers fun AND legal driving with a drop top for added adventure. The Mustang has power and attitude going for it, but unless I was going to take it to the track to stretch it legs, it isn’t much more than a cruiser where perhaps (gasp) the V6 may be enough.
