I have a feeling that this week’s tester is going to set new records for readership on a Day-by-Day blog and blow away any of our test drive statistics. Why? Well honestly who doesn’t love a white van? And this week is the perfect week to be driving around in a white van, what with everyone giving away free candy and all…

Perfect week for me as well for this cargo-carrying machine as I had three fully built bookshelves to deliver to a co-worker and my parents are moving into an apartment. Plus I’ll be heading to Ikea to pickup a bed frame and mattress to bring to them. On my return trip I’ll be filling this bad boy up with tools and various equipment like shovels, wheelbarrows etc.

The Transit Connect is a small but capable cargo van (also available as a wagon with seats) that is targeting at the small contractor or as a delivery van. It is powered by a 2.5L four-cylinder engine that outputs 169 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque. Power is delivered through the front wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission for 2014/2015 — gone is the manual transmission available on the previous generation.

Also gone from the previous generation is the ugly front end, this new 2014 model is handsome looking and is no longer an ugly duckling. Cargo capacity is king here with only two seats and a large cargo area behind. Most frills are removed as well, there is a headliner in the front that doubles as a small shelf for very light items, while in the back the metal roof is exposed directly.

The first thing that was noticed when stepping into the vehicle and driving away for the first time? There is no rear-view mirror. An odd feeling to have, of course there are no windows in the rear to look through so it would be useless if it did exist, but it will take a little getting used to for sure.
