Last week was a rare Volvo test drive for me and this week is an almost equally rare Chrysler test week. That’s right folks, this week I’m piloting the 2013 Chrysler 200S, a car that sells but you do not hear about very often.
Of course we all know the story – Chrysler almost went the way of the dodo but was saved by the Fiat group. Since then we have gained the Fiat 500, the Dodge Dart and a lot of emphasis has been put into improving Chrysler’s interiors to compete in their respective segments.

The Chrysler 200 is one vehicle that really needed an update – especially on the inside. Of course we all joke about its rental heritage, but Chrysler wants you to see it as a mid-sized competitor that is “Imported from Detroit”.
The 200 starts at a very attractive $16,395 – that’s pretty impressive to be honest, but that is for a bare-bones four-cylinder model. My tester is an “S” that includes the new Pentastar V6 engine boasting a class-leading 283 hp, leather trim, dual-zone climate control and optionally installed is Navigation and a power moonroof.
The price comes out to just under $30,000 – which is no longer very impressive as there is a lot of competition in the $30,000 price bracket. I don’t like to have any preconceived notions, so despite the bad rap this car may have, I come into this review with a clean slate.
MSRP as tested (including destination): $ 29,030
