Kleen N’ Screen Machine
Cleaning greasy parts and tools has always been a challenge for the home mechanic. Unless you own an expensive professional parts washer, the kitchen sink may have to serve as an alternative. This isn’t environmentally friendly, as the degreasing solution ends up down the drain. Another alternative is using a bucket or your better half’s Tupperware, which works okay, but then you need a place to let the parts dry and you might end up losing or misplacing small parts.
An inexpensive solution for the home DIY’er is the Kleen N’ Screen Degreasing System by Ztec international of Costa Mesa, California.
The system consists of three trays: a solid bottom tray, inner perforated tray and a top cover. Also included in the kit are a three-pack of cleaning brushes and five pairs of latex gloves.

The first task I threw at the system was to wash the K&N air filters from my sports car. I placed the perforated tray inside the bottom tray and sprayed the cleaning solution on the filters. The perforated tray sits slightly above the bottom tray; parts won’t come into contact with the solution allowing them to dry. This worked much better than what I used to use, an old baking sheet.
Next was to clean and degrease a bicycle chain. I half filled the tray with cleaning solution and let the chain soak for a few hours. The chain came out good as new, and the top cover can be placed over the bottom tray to prevent the solution from evaporating, for later re-use.
There are many other uses around the house for this system. Cleaning paint brushes and fishing reels, disassembling and cleaning pneumatic tools, the uses are endless.
This is a great product that every home mechanic should have in the garage. It’s portable, inexpensive, can be used during service and disassembly to contain small parts, and the cleaning solution can be left inside for re-use.
