Paddle-shifters allow gear selection from the eight-speed auto box, and a fully-programmable, all-digital instrument cluster feeds the driver all the information they need. It even comes with programmed race-track maps and some funky graphics. Waiting in the Starbucks parking lot with your small child? No problem at all. Simply turn on the graphics and entertain them for hours while your beloved buys a “coffee”.

Heck, I don’t need the kid, I can spend hours entertaining myself!

“Choices include a Race mode with central speedometer, track information and a stopwatch, for example, or the Setup mode with detailed information about numerous race tracks,” Audi says.

“Another highlight is the innovative air conditioning control unit, which is integrated directly into the air vents. Temperature, intensity and air flow can be controlled using one and the same element. The display in the vents shows either important media information or the air conditioning settings.”

The external styling of the Sport Quattro is exquisite. Matrix LED lights set off the front end perfectly. Minimal overhangs at the front and rear accentuate the athletic coupe profile, as does the sharply defined waistline, mechanical rear spoiler and two-stage front splitter.

The large, hexagonal Audi grill is present, with a single insert flanked by fluted cooling ducts. This car looks like it wants to eat you.

Style and aerodynamic integrity is retained with Tesla-esque flush door handles and a miniscule, sculpted side-mirror with integrated turning lights. Those fluted cooling ducts in the front bar are complemented by extraction channels that exit via mouldings in the doors as well as by fluted extraction vents in the bonnet.

Yellow isn’t my favourite colour, but the only other visual complaint I could think of was that the rear doesn’t look any wider than the front, and in some cases looks narrower.  Ah, but wait! Does that mean this concept has a more realistic, real-world footprint? Why yes, yes it does.

So does that mean this concept is production ready? It might. Certainly the buzz around the auto show was that it is.

A production model will probably not retain the plug-in hybrid drive motivation, but will likely have to “settle” for the 560 hp, 516 lb-ft 4.0L V8 TFSI engine.

It’s a hard life out here in the real world.
